Three Filipinos executed in Xiamen, China on March 30, 2011

It has been days since I started following this issue. Today, a conclusion was made.  Three Filipinos were executed in Xiamen, China due to illegal drug smuggling in 2008.  Ramon Credo, 42 years old, Elizabeth Batain, 38 years old, and Sally Villanueva, 32 years old, were executed by lethal injection today, March 30, 2011.  Despite the petitions and appeals of the families and the Philippine government, their life was concluded by this very sad reality.

I am making this blog to speak out my opinions and views and not to harm the Philippine government, the Filipino people or other nations.  My heart is in great grief although I do not know these people but because they are Filipinos, I feel truly sad about this situation. Death is an inevitable condition but a person should not die through this kind of  circumstance.  

There was an instance a few years back when a new found friend from Davao International Airport confided to me that she was involved in drug smuggling.  She is 3 months pregnant.  We were both going to Manila and she has a connecting flight going to Hongkong on the same night.  She was crying when I saw her that's why she called my attention and talked to her. She is a single mom told me that she was carrying something that she did not like but was left with no choice because she is pregnant and needs money for her soon-to-be child.   I thought for awhile that it is about the baby but when she started saying something about a foreigner giving her money in exchange of bringing stuff going to Hongkong, I was totally confused and her asked what she means.  She told me she is a victim of drug smuggling.

This story reminded me of the three filipinos executed today.  We have no right to judge them.  They have their own reasons.  Only that, their circumstance gave them no enough choices to make these decisions.  Unfortunately to these people, these are the only means they can help alleviate the suffering of their families even without thinking that these decisions can pose a greater harm to themselves.  

May this be a lesson for all of us.  A law is always a law.  May not be always applicable in the Philippines but yes, it is true in other nations. May we also be reminded that we can always make an honest living.  It is a sad reality in the Philippines wherein everybody wants to go abroad and seek for greener pastures.  But this thought too should always remind us that not all green pastures can lead us to happy endings, it should always go with hard work, determination and perseverance.

Myanmar 6.8 Magnitude earthquake

An earthquake is felt in Myanmar on March 24, 2011 with a magnitude of... 6.8. Reuters said that more 50 people are already found dead and 40 people are injured. The quake was recorded with a depth of 10km (6.2 miles) in the Myanmar region according to US Geological Survey.

7 Facts we need to know about the SuperMoon

SUPERMOON? Is this the reason why we have natural disasters and calamities? 7 Facts we need to know about the SuperMoon

What is a SUPERMOON? A SuperMoon is a new moon or full moon believed to occur when the moon is 90% or greater and is closest to the earth. This somehow occurs just like a full moon when the moon is on the opposite side of the earth from the sun. A full moon may occur either every 29 days or 30 days long because lunar months traditionally have a whole number of days. When a full moon occurs, a lot of speculations are given. Traditionally it is associated with insanity, insomnia or various phenomena like folklores orlycanthropy (human beings changed to werewolves).

But as scheduled, another SuperMoon is meant to happen on March 19, 2011. Astrologer Richard Nolle, who created the word SUPERMOON 30 years ago, charted in the year 2000 the schedules of the full moon and possible dates of the SuperMoon. As recorded since the year 2000, a SuperMoon occurred in the following dates:

1. January 10, 2005, where in a tsunami in the Indian Ocean occurred in December 26, 2004 with a magnitude of 9.0

2. December 12, 2008 wherein an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude occurred in Jakarta, Indonesia in November 17, 2008 with tsunami warnings.

3. January 20, 2010 wherein the Haiti earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 occurred in January 12, 2010.

Another SuperMoon is set to happen on March 19, 2011, which is why speculations have been made that the SuperMoon must have made these tsunamis and earthquakes into reality.

I have been reading publications and articles for the past weeks regarding the SuperMoon to educate myself because the natural disasters has become disturbing for me. A lot of tweets lately are about the end of the world since it is all Biblical. Being a religious person, I do believe that the Revelation and the messages of Our Lady of Fatima are all coming to reality, but looking at the scientific side of all these issues is not out of my options. So these are the facts that I have found:

1. Astronomers calls SUPERMOON as Perigee-Syzygy, wherein the Sun, Earth and Moon are in line. This normally happens in every new moon or full moon. Perigee-Syzygy means that the moon is at 90% of its closest to the Earth's orbit.

2. There are 4-6 SuperMoons in a year on an average. Only that, this year, the March 19, 2011 SuperMoon is the closest to the earth. This would be around 100% or greater in its perigee.

3. March 19, 2011 is the second SuperMoon that occurred this year. There was a SuperMoon in effect last February 12-21, 2011, which some says the reason why the earthquake in New Zealand occured.

4. SuperMoons have close association with extreme tidal forces, the atmosphere, crust and oceans of our home planet - including ourselves, of course. (which is probably why "lunacy" in a folklore is associated with full moon).

5. Within three days either way of the exact syzygy, as a general rule, extreme coastal tides to severe storms to powerful earthquakes and volcanic eruptions may occur as an effect of the SuperMoon alignment.

6. Other examples of the SuperMoon in connection with major storms and seismic events abound which occurred years ago:

a. June 15, 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption, the largest volcanic event in the second half of the 20th Century (within three days of a SuperMoon)

b. October 6, 1948 Richter 7.3 earthquake that struck Ashgabat, Turkmenistan (within three days of a SuperMoon, allowing for time zones);

c. September 8, 1900 hurricane and tidal surge that struck Galveston, Texas on the day of a SuperMoon

d. February 27, 2010 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Chile, a Pacific tsunami, the “snow hurricane” in the Northeastern US, and hurricane-force killer winds in France - all happening at once on February 27. (SuperMoon on February 28, 2010)

e. New England hurricane in 1938 and the Australian Hunter Valley floods in 1955 happened during the exact day of the SuperMoon.

7. Financial analysts are looking into the SuperMoon as a link in the financial market. I am not sure if financial analysts are meant to be superstitious but according to CNBC's Fast Money, financial analysts should look into the occurrence of SuperMoons as this has an effect in the financial market. The SuperMoon could definitely rock the global market.

So shall we say that the SuperMoon is a coincidence or really the reason why disasters do occur? The 7 facts that I have given are facts written and documented. The disasters really did occurred either during a SuperMoon or days before a SuperMoon. But through the researches that I have done by the time I am writing this, there is NO SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION OR RELATIONSHIP why disasters do happen during or days before a SuperMoon. Nothing to worry as of now. I am not a scientist. I am nurse and a blogger. Maybe scientists should look into this if they really want to know if there is a relationship behind these facts. They said NO ONE CAN PREDICT natural disaster, but maybe this could be a link to help us all informed and be guided.

As of the moment, we should not worry. We just have to trust God and pray that these disasters would end. And guess what, I know it's not sometimes lucky for Chinese people (depending on your sign) to look at a full moon but I will definitely look at the moon on March 19, 2011. The next supermoon will be on November 14, 2016 then in 2018 and in 2034. Yes, I don't want to miss a thing! (No, not Armageddon but "Moonageddon"!)

RADIATION RAIN? THE EFFECT OF RADIATION LEAK IN JAPAN NUCLEAR PLANT

In my earlier posts, I placed a raw video from Associated Press of smoke coming out of Japan's nuclear plant. Since then, I was very eager about this scenario as was too paranoid to watch out for the series of events.

Just this morning, I opened my twitter, cellphone and my facebook account and all I see are words like "RADIATION RAIN". The photo shown above is courtesy of Reuters, wherein officials are checking for signs and symptoms of radiation in children.

Now this is true in Japan. But in the Philippines, there is no threat regarding radiation rain here in the Philippines contrary to the text messages, facebook walls and tweets. Although there are fumes coming out from Japan's nuclear plant, there is no way it is coming here in the Philippines. It is believed that the fumes are going to the eastern part.

After the 8.9 earthquake in Japan, an explosion occurred at the Fukishima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Northern Japan, which caused a lot of horror to most residents in Japan and all over the world. As a result of the explosion, it caused steam and caused the breakdown of the nuclear plant's reactors. The effect of this could be a meltdown that is considered as the most dangerous kind of nuclear power accident because of radiation leak.

As of this time I am writing this, Japan authorities reported that the radiation level are far above normal but still too small to pose a hazard to human health. Health hazards would only happen if the leaks would continue and exposure to these hazards will not stop.

Three workers of the nuclear plant's facility is already afflicted with "full-on radiation sickness" as reported. According to Reuters around 140,000 people have been evacuated from the areas near the nuclear plant near the Fukushima Daini nuclear plant in Koriyama, Japan and are also being checked for signs and symptoms of radiation sickness. The Japanese government is now getting ready to distribute iodine as prophylaxis to radiation exposure.

I was actually scared when I saw this new in my twitter account through BBC News. According to some twitter buddies, the more leaks and smoke, the more radiation will come out. I got this video from Associated Press. I also found out in another site that this could be some effect of a a phenomenon called "supermoon" wherein the moon is as its closest distance to the earth. Thank you to my twitter account for always keeping me informed.

1. Mindoro, Philippines: With a moderate seaquake. Magnitude of 5.o

2. Bali Sea: Harmless and deep but very strong below the Bali Sea Floor. Magnitude of 6.5

3. Guatemala: Moderate shallow earth. Magnitude of 4.7

4. New Britain Region, Papua New Guinea: Harmless. Magnitude of 4.6

5. Myanmar-China Border: Extremely dangerous earthquake. Magnitude of 5.4

6. Panama-Costa Rica Border: Moderate but shallow. Magnitude of 4.6

7. Honshu coast, Japan: 8.9 Magnitude with multiple aftershocks ranging from Magnitude 5 to 6

8. Babuyan Island: Harmless earthquake. Magnitude of 4.9

Japan at 8.8 magnitude: PHILIPPINES ON ALERT LEVEL 2 according to PHIVOLCS

After the earthquake that strucked Japan at a magnitude of 8.9, PHIVOLCS are now advising residents in the east coast of the Philippines to evacuate. This places the Philippines on alert Level 2 according the PHIVOLCS which calls for mandatory evacuation in the said areas.

According to PHIVOLCS, Batanes Group of Islands will be the first to be hit. Next is in line is Cagayan, northernmost areas of Ilocos Norte, Isabela, and Quezon. The tsunami may hit the Philippines between 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Residents are greatly advised to evacuate the areas for safety purposes.

Simultaneously with Japan's earthquake which happened today March, 11, 2011, minor quakes were also felt in New Zealand with a magnitude of 3.2, Mindoro, Philippines with a magnitude of 5.0 and certain parts of Hawaii at 2.6 Magnitude.

As of this time 1600H Philippines time, the whole Pacific Basin is advised for a Tsunami Watch except the Mainland USA and Canada. Albay area in the Philippines is advised to evacuate too due to a 1 meter estimated tsunami to hit the area. Australia, Fiji, Chile, and New Zealand is believed to be the first few countries to be hit by the tsunami aside from the Philippines. The tsunami is sustaining waves of 200km/hr as reported.
